Our campaign to raise awareness of Dementia has been a tremendous success and has seen us hit the front page of local news as we encourage community groups, schools, churches, shops and even a nature reserve to join us, as we Turn Melksham Blue!
In support of the Alzheimer’s Society, our home has donated Forget Me Not seeds across the community to act as a visual reminder that Dementia related issues should be a major consideration for us all.
Our Lifestyle and Communities Lead, Chris Guest (above) safely delivered the campaign and took time to talk to over 60 school children and local businesses about dementia and how they can join in on raising awareness of this important cause.
Our campaign made the front page of the local news, who spoke to Chris about his passion for this important subject;
“I speak daily with families who are looking for advice because their loved one is displaying symptoms of dementia but they are hesitant to broach the subject – I feel campaigns like Turn Melksham Blue will help give people courage when discussing dementia related matters, to help our businesses understand how to communicate with customers in our local shops and to have more patience across our generations. In doing so care homes like Blenheim House can continue to ensure that our residents continue to live a full and enriched life.”
Our Home Manager Rachel Stoneman (above) echoed Chris’ enthusiasm for the campaign saying;
“We feel that Blenheim House, as an important stakeholder in our Age Friendly town, can really support the community by continuing to discuss dementia care in our outreach projects, our meetings and our partnership work. How amazing would it be if Dementia Care became a regular topic in meetings for the town, a place where families can find support if they are struggling to understand their loved ones clinical needs.”
Blenheim House will continue to support the Alzheimer’s Society with events and activities throughout the year. Our weekly Residents’ Gardening Club are also planting a permanent floral display in our community garden, meaning when restrictions are lifted we can welcome school children to join in lots of our activities and learn more about dementia care.
