We launch our Community Farm Shop on National Allotment Day!

To mark National Allotment Day, our resident-led Gardening Club have been busy growing vegetables as we launch the Blenheim House Farm Shop!

Our community allotments have been blossoming this year as our Gardening Club have been out come rain or shine to tend to the amazing produce we are donating to the community. Assisted by our award winning Activities Team, the residents have grown an abundance of vegetables, from pumpkins, onions, rhubarb and more. Our residents also love to observe nature during our Noticing Nature creative projects and have been running their own Nature Scavenger Hunt to spot specific birds, insects and flora and fauna

We are marking National Allotment Day with the launch of our Farm Shop at The Melksham Hub- a community cafe just around the corner from our home. Our Farm Shop will be there for the public to pick up their vegetables for dinner as they return home on the nearby train or pass through for a coffee! The Café is a Community Interest Company so our produce will help towards the operating costs for staffing and resources with donation pots inside the café.

Our Lifestyle and Community Lead , Chris Guest, started the project after some great chats with our residents and has been working with the café to build on our community links as restriction’s ease , saying:

“We started the community allotment in anticipation of restrictions easing over time, it’s been wonderful to see our residents growing the vegetables, tending to the allotment and having a great time rediscovering their love for gardening again! We are so pleased to link with the Melksham Hub and forge links for the future, already we have been discussing lots of great trips out for our residents which include stop offs at the café. Going forward, we will also be inviting local schools to join in on our gardening projects and welcoming families back to our home to see the amazing produce out residents have created!

“We’d like to thank Sian, the Manager at The Melksham Hub for her enthusiasm as we launched this project, we really recommend the Hub for all of our relatives who are passing through Melksham!
